Prescribed minimum benefits for psychology

How to stretch your medical aid

based on Medical Schemes Act provisions

The Medical Schemes Act makes provision for medical aid patients to access psychological services through Prescribed Minimum Benefits. This means that your medical subsidises up to 15 consultations per year (without affecting your savings benefit), should you have one of the following diagnoses:

  • Major depressive disorder

  • Bipolar mood disorder

  • Schizophrenia

  • Trauma (acute stress - first consultation should be within 1 month following traumatic event)

Only a qualified healthcare professional should submit a PMB application to your medical based on an assessment.
